העבודה הוזמנה ע"י משרד הרווחה, השרות לעבודה קהילתית וקליטת עליה, השירות לרווחת הפרט והמשפחה וע"י אגף שילוב עולים, ג'וינט ישראל.

מדריך זה הוא ראשון מסוגו לתכנון קהילתי שמטרתו מניעה של אלימות בין בני זוג בקרב קבוצות אוכלוסיה בעלות ייחוד תרבותי. המדריך הוא תוצר של למידות מתוכניות למניעת אלימות בין בני זוג יוצאי אתיופיה, שהתקיימו בבאר-שבע ובנתניה בין השנים 200-2004. ההנחה שעמדה בבסיס התוכניות ההלו היא שהאלימות במשפחה האתיופית צריכה להיתפס כתוצר של מעבר מתרבות מסורתית לתרבות מערבית השונה במבניה, חוקיה ונורמות ההתנהגות שלה מחברת המוצא של העולים. מחשבה זו תמכה בצורך לפתח מדריך, שייתן בידי אנשי המקצוע קווים מנחים לתכנון ובניית תכניות מותאמות לקהילות השונות ולאופיין. המדריך מציע מודל עבודה המונחה ע"י החוק הישראלי, מותאם לקודים התרבותיים של העולים ומכוון לקידום רגישות תרבותית בקרב אנשי מקצוע.
המדריך כולל מודל להתערבות קהילתית רב מערכתית לבעיית האלימות בין בני זוג, כולל פירוט פעולות שעל היזם החברתי לבצע ברמת הקהילה, בהכשרת אנשי המקצוע וכדומה. וכן נספחים הכוללים דוגמאות לשאלוני הערכה איכותניים, עצות כיצד לנהוג עם פונים אתיופים ופתגמים שגורים בפיהם שניתן לעשות בהם שימוש.

Mediating with Interpreters

Many mediators will encounter mediations where the parties do not speak English fluently. Sometimes a mediator may speak the parties’ language and may continue the mediation without the need for interpretation. Other times, the mediator can barely communicate with a party and has no interpreter. In either situation, the mediator may have to decide whether the mediation is even appropriate or whether an interpreter is necessary to continue the mediation. The following are some questions third party neutrals should ask themselves where an interpreter might be needed.

Widening the translator's role in a new multicultural society - Contrary to expectations, globalization is not accompanied by the use of a single language. It is bvious that the constant influx of people from other countries and cultures is producing changes in he way society is structured as well as in how relationships are established in the European Union (EU). These changes also affect interlingual mediation and the role that translators and interpreters (T&I) have to perform. They have to act in a great variety of settings and provide very different solutions for the situations they are faced with. Such a variety also leads to questions on the ethics of translation in public services, the acceptance of the varied forms of professionalism, the importance of the role that culture plays, and the consideration of different attitudes from society and its institutions. These questions suggest the need to discuss mediation as a form of translation or, the other way around, translation as a form of mediation.
